Constitution and Bye-laws ....

A copy of the Constitution and Bye Laws for the Club is available in the clubrooms.   These must be adhered to and if you require any explanations please contact any member of the Management Committee who will be able to explain them.   A read through of both documents, especially the bye-laws, is recommended.

Management Committee ....

A list of all the Management Committee members is displayed on the Notice Board in the Locker room.   Each member of the Club has a representative on the Management Committee as displayed on the board.   If you need help or have any problems please speak to your representative on the Management Committee Member

Introduction to Play (new members) ....

Thurso Bowling Club has 6 coaches fully trained to help you establish the correct way to hold and deliver a bowl.   One of our new rules is that all new members must receive coaching within 2 months of joining the club.   You or your sponsors should contact one of the coaches to arrange your coaching.   If at any time you would like additional coaching please do not hesitate to contact the coaches – Ian Durie, Ricky MacMahon, Marina Bain, Nancy McAdie, Nigel Gower and Keith Boden.

Diary ....

A diary is produced at the beginning of the bowling season listing all competitions and events known at that time for the duration of the season.   The diary is available on Opening Day and spare copies are usually found in the club room.   If you have difficulty finding a copy ask your sponsor or any of the management committee.

Playing Bowls ....

The green is open for play every day although it is closed for the purpose of grass-cutting between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm.   Occasionally there are inter-club matches on some evenings and the occasional Sunday.   These are shown in the diary and on the Notice Board.   Competitions are held on most Saturdays from May to early September and you should refer to the diary for the competition and the Notice Board for times of play.

As the season progresses some rinks will probably be booked for competition ties.   The tie sheet showing ties and rinks booked is situated just inside the doorway to the Locker Room.
Evenings - At certain times of the year there is a heavy commitment on the rinks for ties in the evening but there is always one rink free at all times for fun (bounce) games and any unbooked rinks can be used for bounce games.
Afternoons - Only two rinks can be pre-booked for ties.   The rest are available for bounce games.

Helter Skelter ....

It is well worthwhile coming to the Helter Skelters.   These are fun games with teams drawn out of the ‘hat’ and enjoyed by all. Helter Skelters are held on Monday and Friday evenings and all you have to do is to be at the Clubhouse before 6.55 p.m. to be in the draw for teams.   There is also a Helter Skelter on Thursday afternoon and you have to be at the Clubhouse before 1.55 p.m. for the draw.   At the end of the game we all go in for a cup of tea or drink and there is a ‘prize’ for the highest scoring team. So do come along and enjoy the fun

Locker Room ....

Keys for lockers can be obtained from the Fabric Convenor Allan Hourston.   Every member should have a locker to keep their bowling shoes and bowls so arrange this as soon as you can.

Refreshments ....

The bar is open to all members in the evening and on Saturdays during competitions and helter skelters and sometimes on Sunday if there is an Inter-Club competition.
Tea/Coffee with biscuits is available on a ‘make your own’ basis putting 30p in the money box.   Tea is provided after Helter Skelters at a charge of 30p.
There is a cooker and microwave and all members are free to use these at any time.

Social Evenings ....

There are various social occasions throughout the season – advertised via the noticeboard during the season or during the closed season either via the indoor bowling clubs or advertised in the local press as well as the noticeboard.   From this year the social events will also be advertised on our web site
www.thursobowlingclub.co.uk.   These evenings are very popular and very good fun so come along.

Competitions ....

There are lots of competitions held during the bowling season.   Some have to be entered on Opening Day as per the list attached to the notice advising Open Day Arrangements.  The other competitions are posted on the notice board in the Locker Room throughout the season.   The charge and closing dates are advised at the head of the notice.   Payment must be deposited in the tie-money box (in the locker room) in an envelope clearly marked with your name and competition.   Entries must be paid for before the closing date.   (Failure to pay means that you will not be entered into the competition).   Some draws for competitions are held early on Saturday mornings.   The times for these draws are advised on the notice board and it is essential to check the notice board frequently for information.   For further information on rules on competitions refer to the bye-laws or ask an existing member.
